Unlikely coalitions. First-of-their-kind wins.
The subject matter changes. The pattern doesn’t: find the opportunity, figure out what needs to exist, bring together people who aren’t normally in the same room, build the vehicle and get it done.
MyFirstEV: California’s first-time EV buyer program (2025 to 2026)
EVs for All America funded research and published the rebate design: first-time buyers only, delivered at the point of sale. The American EV Jobs Alliance then ran the outside campaign, CA EV Jobs, uniting automakers and environmental groups with ads, earned media and 100,000+ constituent texts in leadership and budget-chair districts, coordinated with Sacramento lobbying teams, the Governor’s office and the Legislature.
Result: SB 168, signed in July 2026. $135.5 million in state funds matched dollar for dollar by automakers (about $271 million), $3,500 off new and $1,750 off used EVs. Sixteen automakers enrolled by late September, and nearly 12,000 Californians bought their first EV in the first ten weeks. The model is now being taken to Maryland, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
Ending the partisan fight over EVs (2025 to present)
EVs for All America’s national tracking survey studies why EVs became a partisan symbol and how to change that. Fixing America’s Partisan Divide Over EVs (January 2026) found Republican agreement that EVs are “for people who see the world differently” fell from 59% to 49% over three years. Related work includes California multifamily charging research, a July 2026 workshop co-hosted with the Harvard Salata Institute, and the Great EV Journey, a 3,000-mile New Hampshire to Los Angeles road trip with 170,000+ organic views.

America’s first local Anti-Corruption Act (Tallahassee, 2014)
It started when Dan pointed the national anti-corruption group that became RepresentUs to Tallahassee’s fight over an independent ethics officer.
Dan built and ran the campaign for an independent ethics board, a $250 contribution cap and small-donor public financing.
Result: 20,000+ signatures (more than double the requirement), a court win when the city tried to keep it off the ballot, and 67% of voters in favor.
South Dakota’s Anti-Corruption Act (2016 to 2017)
As senior strategist for RepresentUs, Dan helped pass the first voter-approved statewide measure of its kind. When lawmakers repealed it in 2017, the campaign kept up the pressure.
Result: key planks won anyway: a $100 lobbyist gift limit, a two-year revolving-door ban and an ethics board.
Integrity Florida and Florida’s biggest ethics overhaul in decades (2012 to 2015)
Dan and his wife, Nicole Krassner, co-founded a nonpartisan watchdog whose board ran from Tea Party leaders to the League of Women Voters, funded by groups from Americans for Prosperity to the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. Nicole still serves on its board.
Result: a left-right coalition helped pass SB 2 (2013) unanimously, 37 to 0 in the Senate and 117 to 0 in the House. HB 7007 (2013) enacted four Integrity Florida recommendations on economic development incentives, and 600+ officials’ financial disclosures were put online.
On May 3, 2013, Gov. Rick Scott, Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will Weatherford celebrated the new laws at a joint Capitol press conference beneath banners reading “Ethics Reform” and “Campaign Finance Reform.” The Florida Times-Union, citing Integrity Florida, wrote that the state had moved “from a failing grade on ethics to a B.”

Research and publications (2012 to 2015)
Dan co-authored Integrity Florida’s research reports with co-founder Ben Wilcox and partner organizations. Their recommendations became Florida law in 2013: Senate Bill 2, the first major rewrite of the state’s ethics laws since the 1970s, put officials’ full financial disclosures online; House Bill 569 abolished Committees of Continuous Existence and expanded campaign finance reporting; and HB 7007 enacted four recommendations on economic development incentives. Count Every Hero (2020)
Dan built the campaign from the ground up, recruiting nearly all of its key players and running its startup, launch and program. It put 70+ retired generals, admirals and veterans, led by Gen. Tony Zinni, behind counting every military ballot.
Backing reform campaigns at Unite America (2022 to 2025)
On the capital side of reform, at a philanthropic venture fund that has invested $150 million+ in nonpartisan election reform, Dan led diligence, polling and strategy on campaign investments and advised campaigns and funders in 11 states.
